II. Oral Rhetoric

2.1 Campus Research: In groups, identify a social issue and possible responses / contributions to that issue. Make a plan to collect at least 15 contributions (friends, acquaintances, campus strangers).

Required materials for submission:

  1. Write 300 words that introduces us to your project. Consider, for example, the problem, its significance, and your response. Describe your “why.”
  2. Write a 300-word plan for where, when, and how you will collect contributions. Set the stage for how you will persuade people to participate.
  3. Produce 5 samples of contributions (created by group members and close friends). Embed photographs in document.

Submission Instructions:

  • Submit your 600 words and 5 images as a single file PDF document: 2.1Groupname.pdf. Upload it to your Groupname Dropbox folder.

2.2 Oral Presentation: In groups, create a Prezi (or PowerPoint) presentation: 15 total contributions, 750-word narrative of purpose, process, and challenges. Prepare a formal presentation for class.

Special notes:

  1. Your visual aids (i.e. presentation slides) should contain minimal text and be visually interesting and meaningful.
  2. Your oral presentation should be evenly divided among all group members. You should prepare approximately 750 words of speech that narrate your purpose, process, and challenges. Prepare a spoken script, but avoid simply reading a script to the class.
  3. Dress in business casual (avoid sneakers and graphic shirts; wear clean pants and shirts).

2.3 Community Essay: Individually, write a 1000-word essay on the topic: “characterize the strengths and weaknesses of campus culture from a single point of view.” Your point of view should stem from the invention mobs, as well as your own observations about cultural diversity, gender issues, academic culture, social life, peer relations, etc.
